Safer exchanges start with clear boundaries.

How to request help, share your skills and report concerns in the Better Together community pilot. Our goal is a welcoming, practical and privacy-conscious environment, not a substitute for professional services or emergency support.

What is actually available today?

Better Together is currently a small, moderated expression-of-interest pilot. People can privately describe their skill offers or requests through the existing Better Lifestyle contact form. It is not yet a peer-to-peer transaction platform.

  • There are no live public member accounts, open member directories, in-app messages, instant matches, verified credentials, earned time credits or public ratings.
  • Interest messages are sent privately for review, not automatically posted or shared with another potential participant.
  • An inquiry is not guaranteed to receive an introduction or a reply within a fixed period, and sending one does not verify the sender’s identity.
  • The free Skill Swap Planner and Community Host Toolkit generate local drafts and checklists; they are not booking or verification systems.

Activities that fit the pilot — and those that do not.

Generally suitable starting points

  • Conversation practice and language learning.
  • Beginner study or digital-skills support.
  • CV readability and interview role-play.
  • Creative brainstorming or nonprofessional feedback.
  • Small, public community meetups where permission and supervision are clear.

Even a low-risk activity requires clear consent and sensible privacy boundaries.

Excluded from this pilot

  • Medical advice or care, therapeutic treatment, personal care and child care.
  • Legal representation, financial management or handling accounts and passwords.
  • Electrical, gas, plumbing, structural and other hazardous or regulated repairs.
  • Transport or driving services, overnight accommodation and access to private homes.
  • Illegal work, scams, recruitment schemes, exploitative unpaid employment and coercive exchanges.

Someone saying they have qualifications does not mean Better Lifestyle has independently checked them.

Participation is voluntary: You may decline or end any proposed activity. An informal act of kindness should never become an unwanted debt or an excuse to pressure someone into more work.

Keep personal information private.

For an initial interest message, share only the skill or help you have in mind, a general location such as a city or “online,” your approximate availability and a contact email needed for a reply.

  • Do not submit: your exact home address, personal phone number, identity document, account login, passwords, bank details, medical history, sexual information or another person’s contact details.
  • Do not publish: screenshots of private conversations, member allegations, meetup locations that were meant to stay private, or someone else’s work or photo without permission.
  • Ask before introducing: sharing a potential participant’s details with anyone else requires a further, appropriate agreement; submitting a general enquiry is not consent for public publication.
  • Request assistance with your data: use our Contact page or see the Privacy Policy for privacy enquiries. We do not promise an unverified fixed retention period.

Norwegian and EU data-protection requirements emphasize privacy principles including data minimization, limited purposes and proportionate security; see Datatilsynet.

Before a voluntary exchange or meetup

  1. Check the purpose. Both parties understand the proposed low-risk activity and whether support is expected in return.
  2. Set limits.Agree on time, scope, accessibility options and any actual material expenses in advance.
  3. Choose a setting.Prefer a remote session or appropriate public venue; check the venue’s permissions and rules.
  4. Leave freely.Either person may stop. Do not escalate into private, professional or high-risk work.

Event organizers should not assume a “volunteer” label removes their health and safety obligations. Norway’s Arbeidstilsynet guidance on voluntary work explains that circumstances and risk can matter.

Report an uncomfortable or unsafe request.

If an offer or request appears exploitative, threatening, deceptive, discriminatory or unsafe, do not continue the proposed activity. You may use the existing site contact channel to describe the issue privately.

  1. Go to Contact Better Lifestyle.
  2. Use the subject “Community safety concern”.
  3. Briefly describe what happened, when it happened, and which public link or general activity was involved. Do not include identity documents, intimate records, private addresses or public accusations.
  4. Keep any sensitive evidence private and disclose it only through an appropriate secure channel if later requested, where justified.

We may review an incoming report and decide whether the request is appropriate for the pilot. We do not promise immediate response, formal investigation, mediation, background checks or a particular outcome. The contact form is not continuously monitored for emergencies.

Urgent danger? Contact the appropriate local emergency service or police directly. Do not rely on a community contact form for immediate protection.

No cash is not a blanket exemption.

Small voluntary favors, agreed exchanges, paid work and organized volunteering can have different legal, tax, labor, insurance and reporting treatment. The actual circumstances matter, including whether someone receives consideration or whether activities substitute for commercial labor.

  • For guidance on income from small jobs and services, see Skatteetaten.
  • For health and safety considerations in organized voluntary work, see Arbeidstilsynet.
  • For handling personal information responsibly, see Datatilsynet.

Better Together does not currently issue time credits, provide a legal classification for each activity, insure exchanges or guarantee tax outcomes. Consult a qualified professional where needed.

What must be ready before public matching?

Responsible platform engineering

Purpose-limited member profiles, opt-in contact sharing, identity/age assurance proportionate to risks, moderation queues, abuse-rate controls, secure messages, audit logs, account deletion workflows and appropriate access management.

Accountable community operations

Clear reporting procedures, incident triage, enforceable conduct policies, dispute processes, a real moderation capacity, risk assessment, liability review, and accurate information about what checks are or are not performed.

Until those capabilities are actually operational, Better Together will remain a small private-enquiry pilot. We will not present members, live jobs or verified reviews that do not exist.
