Make a card. Recall the answer. Learn at your pace.
A free flashcard maker for your own study questions. Build a personal deck, flip through it, mark which answers need practice, and export your work when you are done. Cards are saved in this browser when local storage is available. Export a backup before changing devices or clearing browser data.
Create your study cards
Add a question and answer. Keep each card focused on one concept. Start with the three removable examples or replace them with your own topics.
Manage your deck
Export JSON for a complete backup you can import back into this tool. Export CSV to open your questions in a spreadsheet; CSV is export-only and cannot be imported here. Imported JSON files are read locally. Maximum 200 cards and 250 KB per import file. Never store passwords or other sensitive information on flashcards.
Choose an answer in your head before flipping the card. This practice tool is not a test or grade.
Keyboard: focus the card, press Enter or Space to reveal its answer, or use the left and right arrow keys to move between questions. Shuffle changes the practice order only; your saved deck is unchanged. Use Review missed to retry questions you mark Need practice in this session. This retry list is not saved or automatically scheduled.
Cards in your deck
Try these three example questions. Your saved cards replace this starter view when the editor is ready.
Learning basics: What is retrieval practice?
Trying to recall information before looking at the source, then checking the answer.
Learning basics: What if one flashcard contains several unrelated questions?
Split it into smaller cards that each have one clear question and a short answer.
Learning basics: How can you test understanding beyond memorizing a definition?
Explain a different example or apply the idea in a new situation.
How to study with flashcards
- Start with a question you can answer without seeing your notes. Avoid packing several unrelated facts into one card.
- Try answering out loud, on paper or in your own words before revealing the back.
- After checking the answer, choose Need practice or Got it. These buttons record session totals; they do not claim to measure mastery.
- Return later, change the question when it is unclear and test a new example instead of memorizing wording alone.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account? Where are my cards stored?
No account is required. Your deck is saved in this browser’s local storage when available. Private/incognito browsing or clearing website data may remove it. Export your deck to keep a separate backup. The site may still use normal analytics or cookies as described in its privacy information; the tool itself does not submit your card contents.
Can I import flashcards from another tool?
You can import a small JSON file containing either a list of cards or a deck object with a “cards” list. Each card needs “question” and “answer” text, and may include “topic”. Invalid or unusually large files are rejected. Import replaces the current deck, so export first.
Does the tool automatically schedule spaced repetition?
No. It is a simple self-quiz practice studio. Your “Got it” and “Need practice” selections apply to this session. For long-term reviews, create a realistic schedule and revisit the cards manually; this page does not promise a scientifically optimized interval.
Can I use these cards on a phone?
Yes, the layout adapts to mobile screens. Cards saved on one device do not automatically sync to another. Use export/import if you want to transfer them.

Flashcard Maker: questions and safe backup tips
The editor uses browser features and may not be available if JavaScript is disabled, blocked or delayed. The example flashcards above remain readable when that happens.
Do I need an account or paid membership?
No account or payment is needed for the flashcard editor. The card list can be saved in this browser where local storage is available; it does not create a cloud account or sync automatically between devices.
Will my cards still be here tomorrow?
Usually, if you return in the same browser with site storage enabled and have not cleared browsing data. Private browsing, device changes, storage restrictions and clearing site data can remove saved cards. Export a JSON backup regularly. Avoid writing passwords, health information or other sensitive personal data into cards: local browser storage should not be treated as secure private vault storage, and this website can load other scripts and services.
How do import and export work?
Export creates a downloadable JSON file containing your deck. Keep it somewhere you control. Import replaces the current deck after asking for confirmation; export first so you have a recovery copy. The current editor accepts up to 200 cards and JSON import files up to 250 KB. Review files from other people before importing them.
What if the editor does not start?
Try reloading once with JavaScript enabled, or test in another current browser. Script-blocking extensions or an unstable connection can affect interactive tools. The three examples in the starter list can still be read without the editor, and you can copy questions into a notebook. For a different way to study, read our study guide.
